About the Host

Welcome to Home2StayHeraklion! My name is Yannis, and I am delighted to welcome you to my freshly renovated apartment in Heraklion, Crete.

My Background

I was born and raised in Heraklion, Crete. After completing my school education, I went abroad to study medicine at the University of Belgrade. After successfully obtaining my medical license, I served for 18 months as a doctor in the armored division of the Greek Army and then for a year as a general practitioner in public service.

Professional Career

In 1999, I began my specialty training in Orthopedics and Traumatology, initially at Venizelion Hospital and later at the University Hospital of Heraklion. Thanks to a scholarship, I had the opportunity to work for six months at the University Hospital of Leiden in the Netherlands, in the Department of Bone Diseases under Professor Papapoulos.

Upon returning to Crete, I opened my own practice in Heraklion in 2005, which I ran until 2013. Afterwards, I moved to Germany, where I worked at various renowned institutions:

- 2014 to 2016: Senior Consultant and Acting Chief Physician in inpatient orthopedic rehabilitation in Bad Lausick near Leipzig.

- Afterwards: Chief Physician of the orthopedic rehabilitation clinic in Bad Elster, Saxony.

- 2017: Senior Physician for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at MVZ Haßfurt.

- 2018 to 2022: Chief Physician of outpatient rehabilitation at Meyer Training Therapy in Untergruppenbach.

Since 2022, I have been leading the orthopedic rehabilitation department at ZAR Heilbronn.

My Passion for Travel

Through my professional positions and numerous travels, I have gained valuable experiences and insights into various cultures. These experiences have shown me how important a comfortable and welcoming home is when traveling. With Home2StayHeraklion, I want to offer you a place where you can feel at home.

My travels have taught me the importance of hospitality. No matter where you are in the world, a warm welcome and a cozy retreat are invaluable. In many cultures, I have learned that the little things make the biggest difference – a friendly smile, a loving gesture, or a personal touch.

Vision and Dream

It is my dream to bring the famous Greek hospitality to life in my apartment. Greek "philoxenia" – the love for guests – is deeply rooted in our culture. It is not just about providing accommodation, but about creating a sense of belonging and welcome. Every guest should feel the warmth and heart that we Greeks bring into our daily lives.

At Home2StayHeraklion, every guest should feel like a part of our family. My vision is to create a place where you not only find accommodation but a home away from home. A place where the beauty of Crete, the warmth of its people, and the comfort of our apartment blend into an unforgettable experience.

The complete renovation of the apartment in May 2024 would not have been possible without the support of my dear mother Chrisanthi and my daughter Chrisanthi. Their dedication and commitment made this project a reality. My mother taught me the values of Greek hospitality from a young age, and my daughter inspired me with her tireless energy and creativity.
